When I was little, we used to play a game called Tommy Turtle. It went like this…

“Tommy Turtle likes seashells, but he doesn’t like the sea.”

and the other player had to figure out why with one guess.

If they didn’t know the answer, the questioner would offer another hint:

“Tommy Turtle likes football, but he doesn’t likes soccer.”

and on and on…until the player could guess the pattern of his likes and dislikes.

that’s what i feel like today, like there’s a list in my head of things i like and don’t like.

“michelle likes reflection, but she doesn’t like regret”

and i’m seeking the answer to the riddle.

discernment.

curation.

cure.

and then just like that…the spark of an idea lifts the grey and fog and the sun shines again…the invincible summer.

  1. Michelle,
The invincible summer… is one of my favortie quotes, I recently made a piece of art to personify it out of a canvas I was going to toss because it didn’t turn out like I wanted. I played around with it for a while and suddenly the image emerged and I knew it went with the quote. :)
This time of year is the most challenging to find our invincible summer with the cold gray east coast winter…I am holding fast to mine too. Thinking warm sunny thoughts for you.

    • hi susie…mmmmm, i’d love to see your piece.

i first discovered the quote as an epigraph in a book i read as a young teen. it was the first time i understood how life worked i think, and i felt like it was written just for me so i cut it out and carried it in my wallet for many years…sadly, the original is lost now but imprinted in my memory forever. xo
